I saw a post on the lostwave subreddit about this unidentified album that was ripped from a CD and posted to YouTube in its entirety and it instantly fascinated me. However, the lostwave subreddit itself wouldn't let me post or comment anything about it because of my low karma or something so I'm putting my search here for now.
The description for the video including the album seems to contain the most promising leads:
"This album was handed to me on CD by a guy I know pretty well who runs a record shop in Colorado Springs. I do not know the band, nor the album name, I don't know what year it was released, and I don't know any of the song titles. There are no liner notes or any text to speak of on the cover (the first two pictures are of the front and back cover, the final picture is of the disc). There are 14 tracks on the CD. Motifs through the album include mentions of Juliette (perhaps from Romeo & Juliette), children singing, spoken word transitions and singing in French. The songs are really cool, kinda creepy, then uplifting, then sentimental, etc. Not really like any other band I know, first listen reminded me slightly of Olivia Tremor Control. Anyway, the guy who gave me the CD did say that the band probably wouldn't care if it was uploaded, but with a smirk he added, 'but what would you call it?' Unknown! If anyone is privy to who this is, please let me know! He did indicate the band had other recordings."
This account points mainly to a lead in the form of an anonymous record shop owner in Colorado Springs (a city in the state of Colorado, United States) that seems to know the band personally, which may also mean this unknown band could have once been or may still be located around the Colorado Springs area. Additionally, track 10 mentions 'Nevada Avenue', which is a street in Colorado Springs that the lyric is potentially referring to, further strengthening the connection to this location. However, it also seems like this record shop owner was hiding details on purpose, so even if someone were to get in touch with him, he might not share any information.
I have decided to nickname this album What Would You Call It? based on the quote from the record store owner in the video description, so that is how I'll be referring to it from now on.
Right now I find the content of What Would You Call It? a bit confusing, but it seems to be a story about this 'Juliette' character drowning. I'm not sure if she died then or not because the structure of the album seems to be non-linear. I'm wondering if the French lyrics that I don't understand have more context. However, this means that the doll in the album cover that is standing next to a large body of water is likely meant to represent Juliette. Upon looking at a map of Colorado Springs, the most likely candidate for the body of water in the photo (assuming the photo was taken in Colorado Springs) is probably Prospect Lake, which appears (at least on immediate inspection) to be very similar to the lake in the album cover. Prospect Lake is also located in a park, which could be the park referenced several times in the album, as well as being located only about a mile from the Nevada Avenue that was also mentioned in the album. Based on some looking around on Google Street View and the fact that there seems to be a house-style roof poking out above the car in the picture, my guess is that the picture would have been taken towards the southern end of the lake on the western bank (assuming it's Prospect Lake, of course).
Certain things in the photos provided in the original video caught my eye. The first image of the front cover of the album seems to have substantial wear in the lower left corner, with the picture having been rubbed away. I'm wondering if there might have been some text there that was worn away and that's why the album doesn't appear to be labeled. Additionally, the picture of the disk appears to have some identifying codes, one mainly numerical and one that is unreadable but looks like letters. I wonder if these could help identify the age/source of the disk and therefore narrow down when the album was produced.
I have already done some limited searching on Ebay for this album, but so far I haven't found anything even tangentially related. I have also done some image searches of the pictures but the only exact matches were the original video and what few Reddit posts mentioned it.
Lyrics:
(I will probably make lots of mistakes so please correct me if I heard something wrong)
Track 1 [1:50 duration]: A chill of cold air into my lungs I exist I'm floating My lungs (the hum gets louder) taste water
Track 2 [1:45 duration]: I hear the wind the quiet the sound (through open windows) My clothes still smell like ocean air (and the blue you) [unintelligible] 'Juliette? Juliette! It's time to sleep. Track 4 [3:52 duration]: (Wake up! Wake up!) (Pretty garden flowers!) (We had a bad dream:) (Juliette is shrink-ing!) Juliette hears church bells on the air. Time to grab her pretty red coat... I fall asleep Do you hear the trembling whispering? Your heartbeat?
Track 5 [3:22 duration]: It's a beautiful day (beautiful day) beautiful day for love [French lyrics; I still don't know French] When we wake up in the morn I love her And she loves me We're alone by the time we're halfway home We got drier underneath the lair we used to sleep It's a beautiful day (beautiful day) beautiful day for love And when he takes you by the hand (and your heart) It's like tomorrow never came It's too late Love when we're awake and love when we're sleeping How How 'bout tonight Quarter to nine We meet at the movies? And when he takes you by the hand (and your heart) It's like tomorrow never came It's too late Love is here Love is here Love is here Love is now Love is death waiting to live Living is dying Finally, the afternoon is here; the sleep has worn off and Juliette feels blood flowing through her veins again. A chill of cold air enters her lungs. (Don't go, Juliette! Don't go Juliette! Please stay, Juliette!) Here comes the bus. Juliette is going off to visit her cousin Ella in the countryside. What a lovely garden. Ella takes Juliette for a brisk jaunt through a pretty garden. Up in the treehouse, [unintelligible].
Track 6 [2:17 duration]: I remember how the trees the wind and the leaves played a song and our band played along too The ghost in the dark I drove through the park Closed our eyes and pretend we were dying You were alive with a song all around you Music was a garden that we grew Hey, little girl smile for the camera Remember the sea or the air in between you and me The way that you spoke softly You were alive with the sun all around you and music was a garden that we grew Hey, little girl smile for the camera I remember your knees The stars on your ceiling that glow and the moon in your window The more that you say you love somebody The less you know it's true
Track 7 [1:13 duration]: [instrumental]
Track 8 [1:12 duration]: Juliette! Come out and play tag and running games every day! Now the day has filed away Juliette! Forget me yet? The pool party; a band is playing. The Bar Mitzvah[?] Brothers!
Track 9 [3:15 duration]: How beautiful You and I We're alone and we're doing fine I wish your pretty wife was mine So I write Meet me in the park again tonight I would love to show you How I'd love to show you Ella Ella, how these days go by We could be together But only if you [unintelligible] Come on, come on Ella Ella You smile Could this be a dream? And I don't mind another night is gone and everything is humming Ella [unintelligible speaking] 'I held out my hand and [unintelligible] my hand [more unintelligible] gone.'
Track 10 [2:11 duration]: Oh, on a cloudy afternoon I was walkin' down Nevada Avenue When she smiles I see her I hope she sees me too (she wore a red coat) A pretty red coat In the lovely starry sea lighting up the city walls and city streets There's this calm about her I hope she loves me too And we'll forget about the one [unintelligible] that was new I held your glove when you cried Suddenly, I understood the way you feel inside It's love I held your hand when you held mine Suddenly, I understood the way you feel inside It's love And today we meet again She's an actress and I don't know where she's been But it's cool It's fine We'll talk about July Kiss me! Kiss me! Kiss me now! ([unintelligible] C'mon, Juliette! C'mon, Juliette! Come on, Juliette! The water won't hurt you!) Kiss me in my pretty new collar Whenever you're close Whatever you say Kiss me now (C' mon, Juliette! C'mon, Juliette ! Come on Juliette!)
Track 11 [1:19 duration]: (The water won't hurt you) Let the sun shine in your hair Let the sun shine in your hair Let the sun shine in your hair Let the sun shine in your hair (the sun shine) Let the sun shine in your hair (sun shine) Let the sun shine in your hair (sun shine) Let the sun shine in your hair (the sun shine) Let the sun shine in your hair (the sun shine) (sunshine)
Track 12 [0:46 duration]: [unintelligible] The sun The ceiling The moon My earrings [unintelligible]
Track 13 [4:20 duration]: Back on the bus, Juliette [unintelligible]. The avenue is long. Juliette feels translucent. Something is humming all around us (all around us). Something is buzzing (all around us; don't panic, Juliette). The water can't hurt you. (All around us, something is buzzing.) Don't panic, Juliette. The water can't hurt you.) [Unintelligible] school. I'm on a roof The sky is blue I'm on a star Is that where you I feel the wind A rain crushing my hair My arms aren't there And I feel the wind Knowing inside [unintelligible]
Track 14 [5:55 duration]: 'Close the window,' says Mother. 'No whispering.' 'No crying, Juliette. It's only one day. You have to keep trying to smile.' We could drive to the park Or maybe the beach Fly like a rocket Into the trees If we keep quiet our bodies will burn into ash and we'll disappear Before you die, bend your hand I'll shake it Your skin was glass on a hunter's bow Waving your arms though swimming It's pretty just watching you And when my street is glowing I feel translucent heat I want to move my heart and list[?] I wanna feel blood pulse through me No more treading water No longer slow-swimming 'You have to keep trying to swim.' [repeated for the rest of the song]
