yes I am making a new shrine before even really starting the others and yes the eyesore background is very much intentional
y'all should watch it even just for the art style alone. It's busy and brilliant and full of eyesore patterns and unabashedly 2004 CGI and it's beautiful. honestly the most unique art style I've ever seen in any genre, not just anime.

storywise, i have to say I liked the original Count of Monte Cristo's version of the story a bit better than the one here. I thought turning the Count pure evil was an interesting idea, but ultimately I do love a good moral dillemma and there wasn't nearly enough of that here. I still love it, but I do highly recommend the book. The story eventually diverges so much between the two of them that it's still worth watching the show and reading Dumas' original work. The space and futurism idea was really cool though.
If you do read the book, however, I would recommend doing so after watching the anime, since the very first part of the book immediately spoils the backstory that is left as a mystery for most of the show.
Now I really want to read The Count of Monte Cristo again. It's been a whole two years or something since the last time I read it.
I think this anime adaptation is based off a manga of the same name; but I haven't read that so I can't speak to its quality
I swear I will actually organize this page one day; I just wanted to get thoughts out so this page would have some content
