8/16/2025 | Productively Bored

I decided to go cold turkey on YouTube in order to better focus on the upcoming semester, and it's been a bit difficult. I actually managed to be off YouTube for a little over a year between mid-2022 and mid-2023 and it was probably the best I've ever felt. I'm trying to recapture that feeling so that I can focus on my academics and maybe get through a bit of my TBR as well. I read an entire book yesterday even, and it was just the first day of this resolution. I managed to read about 150 pages of Brothers K just today because I have bored myself into being motivated to read again.
That being said, I still keep getting that little urge to open YouTube every little bit as was my habit, so I have had to be diligent in always having something to replace that void so that I don't slip back into that aformentioned habit. Hopefully things will be easier once I have classes and my job again to fill my days.

8/12/2025 | Actively Melting

I have spent the entire weekend and part of the way into this week spending all my time working on getting settled into my new dorm. The only reason it took so long was because half of my stuff was mixed into boxes at complete random because of the rush to move out of my old dorm at the end of the last school year. The actual process of fetching my stuff out of the storage unit was smooth enough, but actually getting it organized has been the hard part. It doesn't help that this new dorm, as is the case with most cheap dorm rooms, doesn't have AC. It also doesn't help that it is on a corner with two exposed walls (one facing south and the other facing west) that make it so I am dying for the entirety of every afternoon and evening. Last night I literally had to set up my hammock yesterday and read for a while because it was cooler outside than in this oven of a room.
Anyway, there have been some interesting shenanigans that have happened during this whole process. For one, I got stung by a wasp outside the restaurant we went to after getting all my boxes into the room before my dad had to drive back home. I felt something land on my hair, and for some reason I assumed it was a twig or a wood chip or something based on the weight, but when I reached up to get it out of my hair, I suddenly felt a stabbing pain in my left index finger, and I automatically assumed that the twig or something had given me a splinter when I brushed it away, but once I took a good look at it and couldn't find the splinter in question, I realized it had been a sting of some kind. Thankfully I don't have a deathly allergy or anything and the sting swelled up maybe a few millimeters, but I was still making a huge scene outside of this cute little restaurant.
The other interesting thing that happened was my ending up with two different identical minifridges. Based on the description of this dorm on the college housing website, I had assumed the provided minifridge didn't have a freezer unit, so I still brought in the one I already have. Unfortunately, I realized too late that the provided fridge was quite literally the exact same model as my personal minifridge, so now I was in a bit of a pickle. In the end, I just decided to use the one I brought as a bedside table (the provided one was already up and running so I might as well use that one) but now I have to figure out how to hide an entire extra fridge for the RA checks over Thanksgiving fridge, as my college doesn't allow more than one fridge in each room (I'm assuming for electricity reasons; I'm still only actually using one as an actual fridge), so that will be interesting.
The real problem is that I have been actively melting ever since I first moved in. Earlier today I got some light dresses from Walmart that I can wear around, so that has made it far easier to not be constantly actively sweating through my clothes, but I'm still melting. Because of that, if I suddenly disappear from the face of the internet, you will know that I am, more likely than not, a puddle on the floor because the heat finally got to me. I literally hate the month of August so much.

8/2/2025 | Egg Yolk Jellyfish

I went with my family on a ferry ride to go to this one pizza place my dad really likes and see more of the local area. Unfortunately there weren't any unplanned orca sightings this time, but we saw a whole lot of egg yolk jellyfish alive and in situ. I heard something about how the ferry's engine was drawing them up towards the surface. We also saw a few seagull nests in the area where the ferry docked, so that was cool.
Otherwise, all I've done today (and yesterday too) is play Stardew Valley nonstop haha. I'm almost in my second in-game year despite having owned the game for approximately 48 hours total.
I guess the nonproductivity was only aided by the fact I forgot to take my ADHD meds today ;-;

7/30/2025 | Mildly Nauseated

I finished reading Jurassic Park today and there were far too many intestines for my comfort. It was a great book but some of those deaths were outright brutal, hence the titular nausea. Now my only problem is that I need to find another book today. I visited a new secondhand bookstore today (it was way more expensive than the other ones I've been to ;-;) and picked up some more Dostoevsky (The Devils and a single volume with both Notes from Underground and White Nights), so I might get into one of those. I really want to read Brothers K but my copy is stuck in my storage unit for the next few weeks and I don't love reading on my phone.
I went on a walk today with my family and we saw some skunk cabbages with massive foliage so that was cool. I also finally finished organizing my png page after like six hours of work lol.
It's a good thing I like my student job or I would be really upset that I'm not going to have very much time to do random stuff like this pretty soon.
